#MyFriendAlexa and Why I Signed Up for It

As I approach the second anniversary of Aquamarine Flavours, I can’t help but reminisce at how the blog has evolved since it first went live. I started it with the hope to discover a new passion, after having spent over twelve years in the apparel industry. And somewhere along the way, Aquamarine Flavours steered me in the precise direction I was meant to go.

I have been reading voraciously since the past two years, an activity I sorely missed before, and gradually began to experiment with writing as well. Over time I have had my short stories published online and in literary magazines. Earlier this year, I was selected as a contributing author of an anthology of short stories published by Women’s Web – my first published book.

Recently I also forayed into reviewing books and editing manuscripts, the latter providing me a new insight into the art of creative writing.

Aquamarine Flavours has been my platform to share all of this with the outside world, and while I have received a lot of encouragement from friends and readers, I have always wondered how to take it to the next level.

A few weeks ago I was part of a Creative Writing Retreat organised by BlogChatter and during one of their sessions I discovered the Alexa Ranking system. Upon checking the statistics for my blog, I was shocked to discover how far behind it is in visibility.

As of 31st August 2017, my Global Alexa Rank stood at 11,823,468 and (gasp) I don’t have an India rank at all. (Faints.)

So here I am, taking the plunge in committing to take my Alexa Rank to the next level with #MyFriendAlexa and #BlogChatter – The world’s second and India’s first campaign based on Alexa rank and associated tools.

  5. I enjoyed your piece of writing and can see your blog go places. But quite honestly I think this Alexa thingie is a big rip off. I actually have less visitors to my blog ever since I joined up. I used to get a daily footfall of at least 40 but now it is a measly 20 per day…… BTW I am convinced that these campaigns actually limit your creativity and it is far better to go ahead writing and actually increase your reach/traffic by joining the right blogging groups/tribes or whatever.

    1. Thank you for the appreciation, BellyBytes. Your words are very encouraging 🙂
      As far as the Alexa campaign goes, I am skeptical myself because I know I am seeing some traffic now but will it sustain? I am not quite so sure. I am managing a schedule (so far) which I wasn’t before, without losing my creativity, and I believe that could help. But I do feel that this one month campaign is a result of many factors and when those factors leave the equation at the end of September, things will be back as they were – good or bad.

  10. I am new to the campaign too and i can relate to the shock you felt. I must say i am learning a lot from all the blogs i read on a daily basis and its helping me a lot. Keep aside the rank by the end of the campaign..i am sure getting a lot more than rank i return. Good luck to you for Alexa Campaign! Keep writing and sharing 🙂

    I recently stayed blogging and was soon made aware of the number games. DA, PA, ALEXA, xyz and what not and honestly, just starting out it is so overwhelming. But since I stared keeping a track, I felt that it does give you a great feeling when you discover that the horse has been somewhat harnessed. Happy #MYFRIENDALEXA to you 🙂
